futurebrand hypermedia

Alaia was engaged to create a J2EE-based solution to replace an internal ASP-based tool provided by FutureBrand to their corporate clients, which was used to create and manage corporate Intranet sites to disseminate and control the use of brand assets. The focus was on improving performance and on lowering the annual license costs to FutureBrand by using open source components where possible. Constraints included maintaining compatibility with the existing XSL used to describe and present the existing customers’ sites. From a technology perspective, the application functioned as an XSLT rendering engine, which was used to style and present client sites described by XML documents.

Alaia delivered all aspects of the project, from initial requirements analysis and “forensic” analysis of the system to be replaced to final deployment of the new application framework. The final delivered system offered greater throughput and scalability than the system it replaced; also eliminated over 80% of the licensing fees through the use of open source framework and custom-written replacements for elements which had no open-source support.

Several different client Intranet sites and some public internet sites were created using this framework; including www.thePalm.ae which is a promotional web site for The Palm luxury residential development in the United Arab Emirates.
